I'm excited to be heading
to Haiti next Thursday, June 10th, with Scott Vair to help set up the
latest project, a guest house in Port au Prince. Just last week, Scott and Alan secured a location for our new guesthouse in Port-au-Prince. With the teams that will be coming from US churches to be part of the Haiti Orphan & Vulnerable Child Program (OVC) Scott saw a need for an inviting and restful place for the visiting church ministry teams to stay.
I hope that this guesthouse will be a place of rest, connection, support, encouragement and preparation for service. It is just a shell of a house right now, so we have a lot of work to do to get it furnished and operating in time for the first medical team that arrives on June 18th. When I leave on the 19th I get to hand the house over to Alan Hunt who will be leading the medical team.
The house has been made possible through the generous support of one of our churches, and it is a beautiful home, a mansion really, when compared to the tents that most of the kids in the OVC program are living in. There are five (5) bedrooms and three (3) bath rooms, and it is big enough to accommodate 24 guests at a time. It survived the earth quake and is built to withstand the hurricanes, unlike the shacks the kids are living in.
The cost of the annual lease has been donated, now we need to raise $8,000 to secure a generator, buy appliances for the kitchen, get furniture and the various other items needed to furnish and run the house. If you would like to help out in furnishing the house and covering some of my work and ministry while I'm there please go to the website and see the many different ways you can get involved. www.worldorphan.org
I'll be sending updates on the progress as much as I can. So, stay tuned and be praying for the teams, and more importantly for the kids and the churches caring for them.
